Butford Organics

Apple Harvest with tractor and trailer full of apples

Butford Farm is situated in the rolling hills of North Herefordshire with views of the Welsh mountains to the West. We moved here in 1999 and started organic conversion. We planted an orchard in a 3-acre field of cider & dessert apples, pears, plums & peaches (and a fig tree!) Little did we know then that this would be the start of our cider enterprise.

This orchard has been extended with walnut trees (much enjoyed by the squirrels). We have also planted 200 perry pear trees and taken over a nearby mature cider orchard.
We have continued the long tradition of cider making at Butford Farm operating from our 300-year-old barns These boast an ancient stone cider mill which is a long-term renovation project. We aim to be as non-interventionist as possible from orchard management to cider production. Our philosophy is to combine the best of nature and science to create a high-quality product. We let wild yeasts do their thing and use scrupulous hygiene standards with modern processing equipment. Every stage of the production process is carried out by ourselves on the Farm from the fruit harvest to bottling.

In addition to our weekend shop we offer tours around our facilities and orchards finishing with a tasting from our cider & perry range – still draught to sparkling méthode ancestrale. We find it most uplifting to chat about our cider operation and tours can be arranged at any time to suit your schedule.

Friday: 10.00am to 5.00pm
Saturday: 1.00pm to 5.00pm.
Tours available at any mutually convenient time.
