Leominster Station- 20th Century Working Model

Leominster Station Model

A 7 metre long model of Leominster Station as it was in the first half of the 20th Century

The Leominster Station we have today is only a tiny fraction of what it was a hundred years ago. The scenic part of the model covers the area from the Mill Street level crossing to the old A44 road bridge and shows just how large and different the railway activities and facilities were compared to today.

The long term aim is for the model to have a permanent location in town to serve as a tourist attraction for Leominster and to be a facility that local schools might use for social history studies. It is also hoped that it will prove helpful for older people with memory issues as the sights and sounds of steam trains bring back childhood memories.

The model is far from finished, but complete enough to show clearly how vast an area the railway occupied.  And we can run trains, so come and see where we’ve got to with it all.

“I would encourage everyone to have a look at this remarkable model. Whether as a trip down memory lane or discovering a bit of local history I am sure you will be fascinated by the detail of the model and the story it tells. A great deal of time and skill has ben invested in this re-creation of a time gone by, when Leominster station was a hub of passenger and freight transport, key to the economic and social life of our town”.
